The Downside Of Electric Cars
Electric cars are the latest trend in the world of cars. The emphasis to go 'green' has made these cars a big thing. Also the ever increasing prices of fuels have also turned the tide towards electric cars. But are these cars just as good? Perhaps not! There are several disadvantages or downsides of electric cars. It is important that you are well versed with these drawbacks in case you are considering buying an electric car for yourself.

They are expensive.
The price is perhaps the most important downside to these cars. If you have considered the price of these cars then you would know that they are quite expensive. Besides the cost of the car, it is the price of batteries that adds to the overall cost.

These cars run on lithium ion batteries, which are quite expensive. Also, these batteries do not last for more than three to four years. So you have to replace them after every few years, which further add to your expenses.

They need to be used with appropriate planning.
You cannot go in for an unplanned trip with these cars. This is because these cars work on batteries that need to be recharged. So, you need to recharge these batteries before you go out. You will always need to consider whether the batteries have been charged or not. Now, this can be quite a hassle when you begin to use the car on an everyday basis.

They are not advisable for long distances.
Electric cars are not advised for long distance travel. Most of these cars run out after travelling some distance and call for a recharge. So, if you are travelling long distances then these cars are not the right option for you. Thus, you must consider the number of miles that you would need to travel before you travel long distances.

Of late electric car makers like ZAP have introduced cars that can travel up to 100 miles on a single recharge. Though 100 miles may seem as a good figure, it is not. There are many people who travel more distance daily to and fro work.

They lack power.
As compared to diesel or petrol cars, these electric cars lack power. They do not offer a quick up. This is going to be a hurdle, especially for those who travel on highways or do a lot of inter state travelling. There are times when you need acceleration to merge into the traffic.  Electric cars are not very good for this purpose.

Electric cars may be an eco friendly way to travel, but they definitely have several drawbacks attached to them. These cars will gain mass acceptance only if they are able to overcome these obstacles.
